Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise vehicle with jack and secure on jack stands, then remove the front wheel.
- Locate inner tie rod on the steering rack; clean area and apply penetrating lubricant to threads and jam nuts.
- Mark position of the outer and inner tie rod relative to steering components to preserve alignment or measure toe settings.
- Remove cotter pin and loosen the outer tie rod jam nut, then separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod and remove any retaining clips or locks on the inner tie rod.
- Use the inner tie rod removal tool or appropriate socket to unthread the inner tie rod from the steering rack.
- Install the new inner tie rod by threading it onto the rack to the marked or measured position; torque to manufacturer specification.
- Reassemble outer tie rod to inner tie rod, tighten jam nuts, and reconnect outer tie rod to steering knuckle; secure with new cotter pin if applicable.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque lug nuts to specification, and test steering movement by hand.
- Have a professional alignment performed after replacement to ensure proper toe and steering geometry.
