Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, lift the vehicle with a jack, and support with jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Apply penetrating oil to fasteners on the lower control arm, tie rod end, and ball joint castle nut; allow to soak if needed.
- Remove the cotter pin and castle nut from the ball joint stud if present.
- Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or press. Use a hammer and caution if using a pickle fork.
- Support or remove the lower control arm as required to access and remove the ball joint retaining hardware (press or unbolt depending on design).
- Remove the old ball joint. Clean the mounting area and inspect the control arm and knuckle for damage or corrosion.
- Install the new ball joint into the control arm or knuckle. If a press is required, press the joint in squarely to avoid damage.
- Reinstall any retaining nuts/bolts and torque to the manufacturer's specifications. Reinstall the castle nut on the stud and secure with a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Reassemble any removed suspension components, ensure proper seating, and torque all fasteners to spec.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Check wheel alignment after replacement; have a professional alignment performed if steering or tire wear issues persist.
