Front upper ball joint designed for 1983-1988 Ford front suspension applications, supplied as a right or left hand replacement. This precision-forged ball joint secures the upper control arm to the steering knuckle, maintaining correct wheel alignment, steering response, and suspension geometry. Built for durability and reliable performance, it’s an ideal direct-fit replacement for worn or damaged factory ball joints during restoration or routine maintenance. Easy to install with standard suspension tools, it restores safe steering feel and reduces uneven tire wear.
Features:
- Fits: 1983-1988 Ford vehicles with front upper ball joint applications (right or left hand) — verify vehicle-specific fitment before purchase.
- Durable, heat-treated steel construction for long service life and resistance to wear.
- Restores proper steering geometry and alignment to reduce tire wear and improve handling.
- Sealed design helps retain lubrication and keep contaminants out for reliable operation.
- Direct-replacement fit for quick installation during suspension maintenance or restoration projects.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 60-120 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts, then raise vehicle and support securely on jack stands.
- Remove the front wheel to access the suspension components.
- Apply penetrating oil to fasteners on the upper control arm and ball joint; remove any cotter pins and loosen castle nut on the ball joint stud but do not remove completely yet.
- Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator (pickle fork) or a tapered punch; be careful not to damage the knuckle.
- Remove the upper control arm if necessary to access the ball joint retaining hardware. Depending on design, remove retaining ring, snap ring, or pressed-in retaining plate.
- Use a ball joint press (or appropriate C-clamp adapter) to press out the old ball joint from the control arm.
- Clean the control arm bore and inspect for damage or excessive wear; replace control arm if damaged.
- Press the new ball joint into the control arm until fully seated. Install any retaining clips or rings provided.
- Reinstall the upper control arm onto the vehicle and reconnect the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle. Tighten the castle nut to the manufacturer's torque specification and install a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- After installation, have wheel alignment checked and adjusted as necessary before driving.
