Front lower ball joint designed for 1981-1997 Ford trucks and SUVs, this replacement component secures the lower control arm to the steering knuckle and maintains proper wheel alignment and suspension geometry.   • Penetrating oil
  • Safety glasses and gloves
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level surface, engage parking brake, and loosen lug nuts on the front wheel.
  2. Raise the vehicle with a jack and support securely with jack stands, then remove the front wheel.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to fasteners and remove the cotter pin and castellated nut from the ball joint stud if present.
  4. Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or pickle fork; support the control arm to prevent damage.
  5. Remove any retaining bolts or snap rings securing the ball joint to the lower control arm.
  6. Press out the old ball joint using a ball joint press or hydraulic press per tool instructions.
  7. Clean the mounting surface on the lower control arm and inspect for damage or excessive wear.
  8. Press the new ball joint into place, ensuring correct orientation and full seating per the part markings.
  9. Reattach retaining hardware, torque bolts and the ball joint nut to the manufacturer's specified values, and install a new cotter pin if applicable.
  10. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
  11. Have front-end alignment checked and adjusted by a qualified technician after installation to ensure proper steering and tire wear.
