Front upper ball joint designed to replace worn or damaged units on select Dodge and Ford vehicles from 1980 through 2020. This ball joint secures the steering knuckle to the control arm while allowing smooth pivoting for steering and suspension travel. Built to withstand road stresses, it restores proper alignment, reduces play and vibration, and improves steering response and tire wear. Ideal for routine suspension maintenance or full restoration projects, this part offers a durable, reliable solution for front-end repairs.

  • Ball joint press or C-clamp with adapters
  • Ball joint separator (pickle fork) or tie rod end puller
  • Hammer and pry bar
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Penetrating oil
  • Grease (if applicable) and shop rags
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, lift the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to ball joint fasteners and allow to soak if needed.
  4. Remove any components blocking access to the ball joint (brake caliper bracket or sway bar link) and secure brake caliper out of the way without stressing the hose.
  5. Remove cotter pin and loosen nut from the ball joint stud. Use a ball joint separator or pickle fork to separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle.
  6. If the ball joint is pressed in, set up a ball joint press and carefully press out the old ball joint. Retain control arm in position as required.
  7. Clean the control arm bore and inspect for damage or corrosion. Remove debris and ensure a smooth surface for the new unit.
  8. Press the new ball joint into the control arm using the ball joint press and correct adapters. Ensure it is fully seated and oriented correctly for right- or left-hand application.
  9. Reattach the steering knuckle to the ball joint stud, install the nut and torque to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification. Install a new cotter pin if applicable.
  10. Reinstall any components removed earlier, torque all fasteners to spec, and reinstall the wheel. Lower the vehicle and torque lug nuts to specification.
  11. Test drive at low speed to confirm proper operation. Have a professional wheel alignment performed after replacement to ensure correct steering geometry and tire wear.
