Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and loosen wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise vehicle with a jack and secure on jack stands. Remove the wheel to access the tie rod end.
- Locate the rear outer tie rod end on the steering knuckle. Remove any cotter pin and loosen the castellated nut securing the tie rod stud.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end stud from the steering knuckle. Avoid striking the knuckle directly to prevent damage.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and count the number of turns required to remove the outer tie rod end to preserve alignment as a starting point.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod and install the new outer tie rod end, using the same turn count to approximate original alignment.
- Insert the tie rod stud into the steering knuckle, torque the securing nut to the manufacturer's specification, and install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Tighten the jam nut against the new tie rod end. If equipped, apply grease to the fitting using a grease gun.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear prevention.
