Rear outer tie rod end for 1986-1995 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. This replacement outer rear tie rod end restores proper steering geometry and maintains safe, predictable handling by connecting the steering linkage to the wheel hub while allowing controlled articulation. Built for durability and reliable performance, it helps reduce play and uneven tire wear, making it ideal for routine maintenance or classic car restoration projects. Designed for straightforward replacement, this part delivers long-lasting corrosion resistance and consistent steering response.
Features:
  • Fits 1986-1995 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models (rear outer, right/left hand application).
  • Heavy-duty metal ball stud and forged housing for long service life and resistance to wear.
  • Seated ball-and-socket design secures steering linkage while allowing smooth articulation.
  • Helps restore steering alignment, reduce play, and prevent premature tire wear.
  • Pre-greased or serviceable joint option for low maintenance and extended durability.
  • Direct replacement for OE-style tie rod ends — ideal for restoration or routine repairs.
  • Easy-to-install design compatible with standard suspension hardware.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Lug wrench
  • Wrenches or ratchet set (metric/standard as required)
  • Tie rod end puller or pickle fork
  • Torque wrench
  • Pliers
  • Grease gun (if fitting has grease fitting)
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and loosen wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise vehicle with a jack and secure on jack stands. Remove the wheel to access the tie rod end.
  3. Locate the rear outer tie rod end on the steering knuckle. Remove any cotter pin and loosen the castellated nut securing the tie rod stud.
  4. Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end stud from the steering knuckle. Avoid striking the knuckle directly to prevent damage.
  5. Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and count the number of turns required to remove the outer tie rod end to preserve alignment as a starting point.
  6. Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod and install the new outer tie rod end, using the same turn count to approximate original alignment.
  7. Insert the tie rod stud into the steering knuckle, torque the securing nut to the manufacturer's specification, and install a new cotter pin if applicable.
  8. Tighten the jam nut against the new tie rod end. If equipped, apply grease to the fitting using a grease gun.
  9. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
  10. Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear prevention.
