Front lower ball joint assembly engineered for 1957–1980 Edsel, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury passenger cars. This direct-fit right/left hand unit (includes 50 mm mounting bolts) secures the lower control arm to the steering knuckle, maintaining proper wheel alignment and suspension geometry. Built to resist wear and provide smooth steering response, it’s ideal for restoration projects or routine suspension maintenance. Durable construction and a user-friendly bolt-in design help reduce installation time and deliver reliable, long-lasting performance.
Features:
  • Fits 1957-1980 Edsel, Ford, Lincoln & Mercury front lower ball joint applications (right/left hand).
  • Includes 50 mm mounting bolts for direct bolt-in replacement — no pressing required on many models.
  • High-strength construction resists wear and maintains proper suspension alignment.
  • Secures lower control arm to steering knuckle to preserve steering precision and reduce play.
  • Designed for restoration and maintenance—improves handling, reduces vibration, and enhances safety.
  • Greaseable/maintenance-friendly design (where applicable) for extended service life.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 60-120 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Breaker bar
  • Socket and wrench set (metric & SAE)
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint separator (pickle fork) or press
  • Hammer
  • Pliers (for cotter pins)
  • Punch or drift
  • Grease gun (if greaseable)
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, chock rear wheels, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise vehicle with floor jack and secure on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
  3. Remove any components blocking access to the lower ball joint (brake caliper and rotor if necessary). Support the brake caliper so it doesn’t hang by the hose.
  4. Remove the cotter pin and castellated nut from the ball joint stud. If equipped with a dust cap, remove it first.
  5. Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or pickle fork. Take care not to damage the knuckle or CV axle.
  6. Unbolt the lower ball joint mounting bolts (50 mm bolts are included). If bolts are corroded, apply penetrating oil and allow to soak before removing.
  7. Remove the old ball joint and clean the mounting surface on the control arm.
  8. Position the new ball joint in the control arm and install the supplied 50 mm mounting bolts. Hand-tighten bolts initially to align fitment.
  9. Reattach the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle, install the nut and torque to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification. Install a new cotter pin if required.
  10. Torque the mounting bolts to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification. If the new joint is greaseable, apply recommended grease.
  11. Reinstall any removed components (rotor, caliper), remount the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to spec.
  12. Test drive at low speed to confirm proper operation. Have wheel alignment checked and adjusted by a shop if needed.
