Due to customer demand - here at Shop48 we are always thinking of innovative ways to eliminate the "unwanted gas smell" from your garage or storage area. We developed this 4-inch by 1.5-inch diameter Vapor Trapper for small engines and VERY tight spaces. This was originally designed for home generators and small engine stored in your garage. This small vapor trapper functions exactly like our standard size models just with less charcoal capacity.
If you have a small engine or fuel stored in your garage that is creating that unwanted fuel smell - this Vapor Trapper is your answer!
Note - we typically add a barb fitting to the fuel cap of your gas tank and run the vent line to the Vapor Trapper. You can get very creative with the installation with this little one!
The Vapor Trapper™ can be easily mounted using two 2-1/2” clamps put in line with your fuel tank vent line. Use #6 AN O-ring Boss fitting (barb fittings with a rubber fuel hose or a threaded AN fitting for a more custom installation). Make sure to install the Vapor Trapper™, or at least the inlet line, far above the fuel tank to avoid liquid fuel getting into the filter. Fuel getting into the Charcoal media drastically reduces the performance of this product. If this occurs, please contact us so we can recharge your Vapor Trapper™.
A few years back, Owner Tom Mischke was presented with a challenge when a customer brought him a 1962 Jaguar that was emitting a strong gasoline odor. Looking at the fuel tank, Tom sought to find a way to capture the vapors that were being vented directly into the atmosphere. Knowing that activated charcoal is used to capture odors, Tom looked everywhere for an existing charcoal canister that could be adapted to automotive use. When he couldn’t find one, he decided to make it himself.
Our most recent innovation, Vapor Trapper, is poised to change the classic car hobby in a major way. Before EPA regulations mandated closed-loop fuel systems, gasoline vapors were an annoyance that had to be tolerated by every auto owner. Today, people just expect their vehicles TO NOT SMELL LIKE GAS and if they do – it’s a sign that something is terribly wrong! But if you own a vintage car, truck, or even a modern-built hotrod with a new fuel-injected engine, you probably go out into your garage, and it smells like gas.
The result is Vapor Trapper, a universal billet aluminum charcoal canister that traps gasoline vapors before they can escape from the fuel system. Easily installed anywhere above the fuel tank level, the Vapor Trapper absorbs gas odors while allowing the fuel tank to vent normally. The charcoal lasts for a long time. When it becomes saturated, simply unscrew the top, replace the charcoal, and the Vapor Trapper is ready to go. Vapor Trapper is now installed on every car that passes through Tom’s shop.
