Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise vehicle with jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the inner tie rod at the steering rack and mark the position of the outer tie rod on the inner tie rod or note the measured thread position to preserve alignment.
- Apply penetrating oil to the lock nut and tie rod connections. Loosen and remove the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod (use tie rod tool or pickle fork if needed).
- Loosen and remove the lock nut securing the inner tie rod to the outer tie rod. Unscrew the inner tie rod from the steering rack using an inner tie rod tool or appropriate wrench.
- Inspect steering rack boot and rack shaft for damage; replace boot if necessary.
- Install the new inner tie rod by threading it onto the steering rack to the marked position or match the original thread count. Tighten to vehicle manufacturer torque specifications.
- Reattach the outer tie rod end and tighten its nut to specification. Reinstall and tighten the inner tie rod lock nut to secure the assembly.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Because installation may alter alignment, have a professional wheel alignment performed after replacement to ensure proper steering and tire wear.
