Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise front of vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel on the side being serviced.
- Locate the inner tie rod end at the steering rack or center link. Apply penetrating oil to fasteners and allow to soak if corroded.
- Mark the position of the old inner tie rod relative to the adjusting sleeve or steering rack (count turns or use a paint mark) to preserve toe setting.
- Remove the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle (if necessary) and disconnect the inner tie rod from the tie rod assembly using a tie rod puller or pickle fork.
- Unthread the inner tie rod from the steering rack or adjusting sleeve. Use an appropriate inner tie rod tool if needed to break it loose.
- Compare the new inner tie rod to the old unit for length and thread orientation. Install the new inner tie rod by threading it into the steering rack or adjusting sleeve to the previously marked position.
- Torque the inner tie rod fasteners to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Reconnect the outer tie rod end and torque to spec.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional alignment performed or check toe settings with alignment tools before driving to ensure proper steering and tire wear.
