Inner tie rod end designed for direct-fit replacement on 1975–1980 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury passenger cars and light trucks. This inner tie rod restores secure connection between the steering rack and outer tie rod, maintaining proper steering geometry and vehicle tracking. Built from heat-treated steel with a corrosion-resistant finish and a durable bearing surface, it reduces play and vibration while providing consistent steering feel. Precision-machined threads and a robust joint deliver long service life and reliable performance, and the part is engineered for straightforward installation to help speed restoration and maintenance jobs.
Features:
  • Fits 1975–1980 Ford, Lincoln & Mercury vehicles (inner tie rod, right or left hand applications).
  • High-strength, heat-treated steel construction for long-lasting durability.
  • Precision-machined joint and threads to eliminate play and restore steering alignment.
  • Corrosion-resistant finish and sealed bearing surface help prevent premature wear.
  • Direct-fit replacement for restoration or routine maintenance—no modification required.
  • Easy to install with common hand tools; improves steering responsiveness and reduces vibration.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Lug wrench
  • Combination wrenches and sockets (assorted sizes)
  • Torque wrench
  • Inner tie rod removal/installation tool (spline/socket style)
  • Pliers
  • Hammer and punch
  • Penetrating oil
  • Grease
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, set parking brake, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and secure on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
  3. Locate the inner tie rod at the steering rack end and apply penetrating oil to fasteners and jam nut.
  4. Remove the cotter pin and loosen the outer tie rod end lock nut. Separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or hammer technique as appropriate, then unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner to gain access.
  5. Use the inner tie rod removal tool to unthread the inner tie rod from the steering rack. Protect the rack seal as you work.
  6. Compare the new part to the removed unit to confirm correct orientation (right/left hand threads if applicable). Clean the mounting threads and apply a light coat of grease to the new part’s threads if recommended.
  7. Install the new inner tie rod by threading it into the steering rack to the specified engagement depth. Tighten to the manufacturer's torque specification using a torque wrench or the recommended method for your vehicle.
  8. Reattach the outer tie rod and pre-set the approximate length to match the removed unit to preserve alignment. Tighten jam nuts to spec.
  9. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
  10. Perform a professional wheel alignment after installation to ensure correct toe-in and prevent uneven tire wear.
