This parking/emergency brake equalizer bracket is a direct-fit replacement for 1966–1973 Ford passenger cars. It secures the parking-brake equalizer to the chassis, correctly aligns the handbrake cables and restores proper geometry for dependable parking-brake operation. Built for durability and reliability, the bracket resists corrosion and wear while providing an OEM-style fit for restorations and repairs. Easy to install, it helps eliminate slack, reduce cable vibration, and ensure consistent brake engagement.
Features:
- Fits 1966–1973 Ford passenger cars (common applications include Mustang, Fairlane, Galaxie and other Ford models of the era).
- Precision-formed steel construction with a corrosion-resistant finish for long service life.
- Secures and aligns the parking/emergency brake equalizer to restore correct cable geometry.
- Direct-fit replacement for restoration and maintenance projects; restores factory function.
- Heavy-duty design reduces vibration and cable wear for more reliable parking-brake performance.
- Simple bolt-on installation — designed for ease of use during routine brake repairs.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes
Instructions:
- Park the vehicle on level ground, set the parking brake, and block the wheels. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands if needed to access the equalizer area.
- Locate the parking/emergency brake equalizer and the existing bracket under the vehicle (usually near the center tunnel or rear apron).
- Apply penetrating lubricant to mounting fasteners if they appear corroded. Use the appropriate sockets and wrenches to remove the bolts or nuts securing the old bracket and disengage the equalizer from the bracket.
- Carefully note cable routing and any hardware orientation to ensure correct reinstallation. Remove the old bracket and clean the mounting surface of dirt and corrosion.
- Position the new equalizer bracket in place and loosely install mounting bolts to hold it. Reattach the equalizer and reroute cables through the bracket exactly as originally configured.
- Adjust cable lengths/tension as required to remove slack and achieve proper handbrake engagement. Tighten mounting fasteners to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended torque specification.
- Lower the vehicle, test the parking brake function with the vehicle in gear (or on a slope with chocks) to confirm reliable engagement, and re-check torque after a short test drive.
