This right-hand (passenger side) steel hood hinge is a direct-fit replacement for 1967–1970 Mustang and Cougar models. Designed to secure, align and support the hood assembly, it restores factory opening and closing geometry without the spring. Built from stamped steel for strength and durability, the hinge provides reliable, long-lasting performance for restoration or maintenance projects and is suitable for repainting or finishing to match your restoration.
Features:
- Fits 1967–1970 Mustang and Cougar — right-hand (passenger) side.
- Stamped steel construction for strength and OEM-style fitment.
- Supplied without spring — accepts the vehicle's original spring or an aftermarket spring.
- Restores hood alignment and secure mounting for smooth operation.
- Direct bolt-on replacement for worn, bent or corroded hinges.
- Prepared for finish or paint; corrosion-resistant where applicable.
- Ideal for restorations and routine maintenance to return correct hood geometry.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes
Instructions:
- Park the vehicle on a level surface, set the parking brake, and open the hood. Support the hood securely with a prop, jack with padded block, or have an assistant hold it — do not rely on a worn spring.
- If retaining the original spring, do not remove it under tension. Note: this hinge is supplied without a spring. If you plan to reuse the original spring, follow safe removal procedures or consult a professional.
- Mark the current hinge positions on the hood and fender using masking tape or a marker to preserve alignment reference points.
- Apply penetrating oil to fasteners if they appear corroded. Loosen (but do not fully remove) the hinge-to-hood and hinge-to-fender bolts to verify access and condition.
- Support the hood securely. Remove the hinge-to-hood and hinge-to-fender bolts and carefully lift the old hinge away.
- Position the new hinge in place, aligning it with your previously made marks. Install the bolts finger-tight to allow for adjustment.
- Adjust the hinge to achieve even hood gaps and proper hood-to-fender alignment. With the hood supported and alignment checked, tighten all mounting bolts to the vehicle manufacturer's torque specifications (if unknown, tighten evenly and securely, typically in the 20–40 ft·lb range depending on fastener size).
- If using a spring, install or reconnect it only after the hinge and hood alignment are correct and follow safe spring-installation procedures. Consider professional help for spring installation due to stored tension.
- Operate the hood slowly several times to confirm smooth opening, closing, and secure latching. Make any final small adjustments to bolt positions as needed.
- Apply a small amount of lubricant to the hinge pivot points and recheck bolt torque after a short test drive or operation period.
